Agora have a longstanding relationship with Mitchells and Butlers and continue to provide consulting, project management and engineering support to the business - both indirectly via Fujitsu, and directly during projects and rollouts.

With a number of multi-skilled teams at hand, we can deliver an end to end solution; from consulting and planning, through project and rollout co-ordination to hotstage, installation, testing and training. Our teams have worked closely with Mitchells and Butlers over the years and understand not only the customer, but the branded outlets and their specific requirements.

PROJECT CASE STUDY

When the largest operator of restaurants, pubs and bars in the UK needed to re-cable its outlets, it needed a service that could deliver on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to trading. Working largely outside of opening hours, we re-cabled over 1500 stores in less than 8 months – completing the project on time and on budget.

Our team was put in charge of re-cabling the entire Mitchells & Butlers estate spreading over 1539 outlets. Its existing EPoS system - installed on a dated CAT3 (Beldon) network - was long overdue an upgrade, so we worked behind the scenes to equip the outlets with a brand new CAT5 network, allowing them to change their EPoS systems more easily. In addition, we installed the O2 guest Wi-Fi on each site, putting both electronic and customer connections firmly in place.

PLANNING

Knowing every site inside-out is key to successful implementation. The engineers’ role therefore involved completing a detailed survey of each outlet prior to any works taking place: getting familiar with existing equipment, mapping store layout and ensuring good Wi-Fi coverage throughout.

DEPLOYMENT

.01  THE CABLING TEAMS

With each outlet taking on average two nights to re-cable, we recruited and trained specialist cabling teams exclusively for this project to undertake the initial part of the install. The teams would arrive on-site prior to closing time and work overnight to re-cable each site without interfering with daytime business operations, ensuring a truly seamless system changeover.

.02  THE ENGINEERS

Once the cables were installed, our engineers arrived on-site at 4am to swap the existing Beldon-cabled EPoS systems to the new CAT5 cabling. This included the associated fault finding, patching of cables and configuration changes before any testing was carried out. The engineers also fitted and configured a new Cisco switch required to drive the PoE Wi-Fi application in the outlets, as well as completing the wireless installation and future-proof testing.

.03  PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Mitchells & Butlers estate covers the whole of the UK, so ensuring people were in the right place at the right time was an important consideration. The entire project was run and coordinated by our dedicated project team who ensured the work and staff requirements were met.

TRAINING AND SUPPORT

In addition to a full surveying and implementation package, we offered full round-the-clock support to the individual outlets during the weeks that followed. We responded to enquiries regarding the usage of the system, helping the businesses make the most of their new applications.
